Coronavirus has canceled county fairs, so 4-H livestock contests are going virtual
Summertime fairs are being canceled due to the coronavirus, much to the chagrin of rural kids across the country. That means no more fried food and the lingering aroma of hay in the air. Many kids had been tending to animals for months in preparation for the 4-H livestock competitions, eager for judges to see their cows, goats, pigs, and chickens. While waiting to hear if their local fairs will happen this year, some kids have taken to virtual contests for showmanship or to see the market potential of their livestock. Some have even shown off their barns, ‘MTV Cribs’-style. The New York Times has the story.
