Uncle Ben’s rice brand will change to Ben’s Original
The Uncle Ben’s rice brand is changing its name to Ben’s Original. On Wednesday, the parent firm Mars Inc. revealed the change to the 70-year-old brand, the latest company to switch logos after criticism for promoting a racial stereotype, AP News reports. This follows the logo change of Quaker Oats’ Aunt Jemima in June and Trader Joe’s change in its international foods branding in July (since reversed). Fiona Dawson, global president for Mars Food, said after months of conversations the company settled on “Ben’s Original.” It is still deciding, however, on an image to accompany the new name. The new branding will appear in stores starting next year.
