Trader Joe’s released Covid-19 case count amongst employees
Trader Joe’s released its Covid-19 numbers, reporting over 1,200 cases from the pandemic’s beginning through October 31. In a press release the grocery chain published last week, it cited cases among its employees at 83 percent of its 514 stores. Less than one-quarter of the stores have not reported a single case, Grocery Dive reports. In March and April, Trader Joe’s faced scrutiny on how it handled the virus, including reports of keeping stores open amid employee infection, promoting anti-union messages, and allegedly banning gloves and face masks for a short period of time. The statement said employees have contracted the virus at a rate of 2.4 percent since the onset of the pandemic. Reliable data in the grocery industry remains scarce: Companies such as Walmart and Target have refused to publish data on employee infections.
