Saveur magazine has turned is going online-only

Another glossy magazine has gone out of print: After 27 years on newsstands, Saveur magazine notified readers last week that it’s becoming a digital-only publication. Close readers may have seen this coming. In 2018, following a round of layoffs, Saveur reduced its publishing frequency from six issues per year to four. The outlet will now follow in the footsteps of several other legacy titles that have given up their print editions in recent years, including Glamour, Seventeen, and ESPN The Magazine. It’s unclear whether the digital-first move will work for readers—Gourmet’s pivot to an app was short-lived after the magazine ended its print run in 2009. But the pandemic has forced many businesses to rethink their strategies for survival; Saveur may find that going digital is a recipe for success.
