Despite a wealth of plant-based alternatives, meat consumption continues to rise in the U.S.

While vegans may be rejoicing over the increased availability of plant-based meat and dairy replacements, statistics show that most Americans are slow to give up the real thing. In fact, they’re eating more of it. As Mother Jones points out, newly released USDA numbers for 2020 confirmed that chicken, pork, and beef consumption have slowly risen for the past several years—even as alt-protein “disruptors” continue to innovate and expand their already-saturated market.
