McDonald’s coffee cups support the Covid vaccine
Not to be upstaged by Starbucks, which has partnered with Washington state to help coordinate vaccine distribution, McDonald’s is printing pro-vax messaging on coffee cups. According to Restaurant Business, McDonald’s has teamed up with the Biden administration, using the built-in marketing reach of its disposable products to win over vaccine skeptics. Color us cynical that a “WE CAN DO THIS” coffee sleeve will really move the needle on deep-seated vax hesitancy, but it’s certainly not a bad message to send. (Though perhaps a policy on staff vaccinations might have a stronger effect?) Xavier Becerra, secretary for the Department of Health and Human Services, gave a tepid statement on the development: “Thanks to McDonald’s, people will now be able to get trusted information about vaccines when they grab a cup of coffee or order a meal.” Nothing but facts.
