Cafeteria workers are facing unprecedented uncertainties, from safety to job security

In the new school year, the safety of students, educators, and staff are all on the line. Whether districts are continuing remote learning or expected to reopen, cafeteria workers, who have fed millions of students and their families since the spring, are at high risk of both Covid-19 exposure and unemployment. Many of these workers don’t qualify for benefits like health insurance. And for cafeteria workers on college campuses, over 95 percent of workers represented by the labor union United Here have lost their jobs. The Atlantic has the story
