JBS plant workers in Colorado are honored with billboards

This week in Greeley, Colorado, two billboards went up in memoriam of six JBS plant workers who have died this year due to Covid-19. They were commissioned by the United Food Commercial Workers Union Local 7, which represents many of the plant’s employees, CBS Denver reports. Each billboard included the names and photos of the workers, all of whom were people of color. “It really falls into the systemic racism that we’re seeing throughout the country, where either workers of a different race or color are treated as disposable, and they’re not,” said union president Kim Cordova. On Sunday, the union will hold a memorial event for members and their families, followed by a drive-by caravan to the billboards.
