Americans searched for fries and alcohol on election night
Food has always been a coping device, so it’s not surprising that on election night, many turned to fries and booze (in between doomscrolling) to ease their anxiety. According to the @GoogleTrends Twitter account, which posted updates as tallies were coming in, the top food-related searches were for pizza, Chinese food, liquor stores, sushi, and Mexican food. Later that night, the thread was updated to state that “fries near me” and “liquor stores near me” dominated inquiries. It’s telling though, that “fries near me” hit an even higher peak on Sunday night. Too soon to tell if there will be a spike in “Champagne” searches in the near future.
