Meat giant JBS debuts its line of plant-based meat products
JBS, the world’s largest meat company, debuted “Ozo,” its plant-based meat products via a new Colorado-based subsidiary, Planterra Foods. JBS appears to be making a stealth move into the plant-based space, however, as there is no mention of Ozo on its website or any press materials. Like many other plant-based competitors such as Beyond Meat and Impossible Foods, Planterra’s products are composed of a mix of pea and rice proteins. The most novel ingredient in this new product line is dried shiitake mushrooms, according to Food Dive. The plant-based meat space is incredibly lucrative, with sales that have grown 27 percent faster in 2020 over 2019.
