A Jewel-Osco supermarket is first to offer parking lot robot-delivered pickup

A Jewel-Osco grocery store in Chicago is now the first in the nation to pilot an automated pickup kiosk. At a customer’s convenience, the kiosk presents a contact-free solution for online shoppers to pick up groceries. According to The Chicago Tribune, shoppers select a two-hour pickup time and scan a code upon arrival at the kiosk located in the store parking lot. Each delivery is hand-shopped by employees at the store, then their purchases are delivered robotically. As the demand for online shopping continues, the chain has added several other curbside pickup options, including temperature-controlled lockers to access prepackaged grocery orders.
