Re-opened ice cream shop shutters after customers refuse to social distance
“Now I open the doors to a whole new world, with gloves and masks and we’re running around like chickens, and people are like where’s my ice cream? I’m not a trauma center, it’s ice cream!” Those are the words of ice cream shop owner Mark Lawrence, describing to CNN the short-lived re-opening of his store in Massachusetts. According to Lawrence, customers refused to social distance, lobbed F-bombs at bewildered staff, and ignored his request that orders be placed an hour in advance. Unsurprisingly, one of his best staffers—a 17-year-old—quit on the spot. A frustrated Lawrence closed the shop to the public, posting about the decision on Facebook. Luckily, his posts went viral, attracting the attention of local news and an outpouring of support from the community. He’s since re-opened, and customers are following the rules now. How sweet.
