KFC pausing “finger-licking good” slogan amid pandemic

What happens when a company’s long-standing slogan no longer seems appropriate during a global pandemic? Pause it—but make it cheeky. At least that’s KFC’s solution to temporarily benching their 64-year-old “It’s finger-licking good” motto: “We find ourselves in a unique situation—having an iconic slogan that doesn’t quite fit in the current environment,” Catherine Tan-Gillespie, global chief marketing officer at KFC, said in a statement. That also doesn’t mean the Yum Brands-owned chain isn’t having some fun with the halt. Earlier this week, the company issued a new YouTube video featuring the motto pixelated out, and recently rolled out TV ads with the coda: “That thing we always say? Ignore it. For now.”
