A pistachio heist: foiled!
How do you steal 42,000 pounds of pistachios? The 21-ton nut theft was the subject of a recent investigation by the agricultural crimes unit (yes, that’s a thing!) of the Tulare County Sheriff’s office in California, The New York Times reports. Lest you get too excited about helicopters hovering over the orchard in the dead of night, or an artfully coordinated heist in the style of action movies, we assure you the answer is far more Home Alone than Ocean’s Eleven. Police apprehended an employee of the truck driving company that had been contracted to handle the nuts and recovered all but 2,000 pounds of the missing pistachios. Perhaps not coincidentally, the volume of nuts stolen added up to slightly less than the capacity of a single truck trailer. Ex-shell-ent detective work.
