USDA pursuing SNAP cuts despite Covid-19
The Department of Agriculture said it would appeal a judge’s ruling and move forward with food stamp changes that could force 700,000 people out of the program, despite the Covid-19 pandemic. PBS reports that last week, a federal judge ruled to stop the changes which would have taken effect on April 1. The change, led by Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue, would remove some states’ current ability to waive the work requirements for benefits. The Families First bill signed into law last week will delay implementation of SNAP work requirements, but only temporarily.
