Wisconsin farmer plants 2 million sunflowers to make people happy
Like so many other business owners navigating the Covid-19 pandemic, Scott Thompson knew he had to pivot the pick-your-own farm his family ran for 70 years. Instead of strawberries and pumpkins, the Wisconsin-based farmer planted sunflowers—22 acres of them—enough to encourage two million blooms. Now, folks are flocking to see the golden fields—which were sown to allow for social distancing—pick flowers, and picnic. “If I’m out in the field, everybody is like, ‘Thanks for doing this,’ (and) ‘This is what I needed,’” Thompson told CNN. “People are so happy to be out there and have a place to go.”
