Vegan cheesemaker sues to keep cow photo on its website

After the California Dept. of Food and Agriculture told vegan cheesemaker Miyoko Creamery to stop calling its plant-based spread “butter,” and to remove a picture of a woman hugging a cow from its website, the company decided to sue. The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Miyoko’s CEO found the state’s demand “absurd” and partnered up with animal advocacy organizations for the lawsuit. If Miyoko loses, it plans to troll everyone by renaming its product “They Say We Can’t Call it Butter.” (Psst: They could take a page from Country Crock.)
