This month marks the second pandemic Ramadan. Restaurants in Philly are prepared.
Halal restaurants in Philadelphia are prepared for the second pandemic Ramadan, Eater reports. The restaurant Manakeesh Cafe Bakery & Grill will serve a special menu featuring traditional foods from Lebanon, and the general manager’s mother is decorating for the occasion. Elsewhere, Don Panchito Halal Mexican Grill plans to send free platters of quesadillas and tacos to masjids (mosques) and work with grocery stores to deliver care packages to refugees. In normal years, Manakeesh closes during the day, then re-opens up just before iftar, the meal eaten after sunset to break the fast. “You see people rushing in and preparing to eat,” general manager Adam Chatila told Eater. “Then we start passing out dates to the whole crowd.” (Read our piece about preparing for last year’s Ramadan during the shutdown.)
