JBS paid hackers $11 million in ransom after May cyberattack

Meat supplier JBS paid hackers $11 million in Bitcoin after a cyberattack knocked out the company’s computer system over Memorial Day weekend, the Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday. That’s more than double the ransom paid by Colonial Pipeline, a company that was also felled by a recent ransomware attack that prompted gasoline shortage concerns along the East Coast. Earlier this week, the U.S. Department of Justice announced it had seized much of the Colonial payment, having tracked 75 Bitcoins through at least 23 different accounts. It ultimately recovered 63.7 of them. We’re willing to bet JBS is hoping for a similar outcome.
