Chicago CEO distributes free “Black-Owned Business” signs to biz owners affected by protests
After seeing looting and destruction in her native Chicago following massive protests condemning the killing of George Floyd, the Black CEO of WDB Marketing Group, Keeana Barber, felt she needed to help the many businesses affected. Her solution was to create free signs for area restaurants and stores, proclaiming “Black-Owned Business” and “Don’t Destroy our Black Business.” After displaying the signs on social media, Barber was flooded with messages and volunteers were secured to help with distribution—people even donated funds toward printing costs. Within 24 hours, hundreds of windows were displaying the signs. “I didn’t expect it to be that popular,” said Barber to the Chicago Sun-Times. “I was heartbroken to see so many black-owned businesses get looted.”
