Fight for $15 files charges against McDonald’s for secret surveillance of its workers
The labor advocacy campaign Fight for $15 has filed charges against McDonald’s for unlawful surveillance of its workers, VICE reports. Last Thursday, the group filed an unfair labor practice charge after a Motherboard investigation revealed how a corporate intelligence team was spying on McD’s employees. The investigation found McDonald’s was keeping tabs on labor organizers, identifying those who were involved in strikes, unionization efforts, and labor-oriented protests. The National Fast Food Workers Union, which runs the Fight for $15 campaign, filed the charges with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), stating the fast food chain’s actions violated labor laws. If NLRB finds sufficient evidence against McDonald’s, it will issue a formal complaint and the company can either settle or face a hearing—a process that could take months or even years.
