117 new emojis to debut this year
Our digital set of ideograms and smiley faces evolves each year, with each addition carefully selected (and occasionally debated) for usefulness and inclusivity. In 2020, 117 new emojis will be released—which, on the food front, means new symbols for fondue, tamales, an olive, blueberries, a bell pepper, and flatbread.
Though some others, like the smiley face with a tear, seem like a nod to pop culture sensations, we can only guess the pinched fingers graphic is meant as a reminder to add more salt—or perhaps to rewatch The Sopranos. Preview the full set here.
