Impeachment with a side of milk

Truth or dairy. Two days ago, a journalist tweeted that milk and water were the only drinks permitted on the Senate floor, a comment that quickly went viral within the Beltway press corps. As a result, we were served gallons of explainers that detailed whether or not Senators are really allowed a little dairy indulgence on the job. (As a treat?) As it turns out, the chamber’s Standing Rules “do not prohibit a Senator from sipping milk during his speech.” To round off the news cycle, Senators Ted Cruz, Richard Burr, and Tom Cotton were observed drinking milk. The real question is: Why are we still writing news stories based off of viral tweets in 2020?
