Preventing a murder, Costco’s $1.50 hot dog and soda combo is here to stay
In the Costco food court, past the aisles of oversized food products and under-priced booze, is the legendary food court where you can always get a hot dog and a soda for $1.50. It’s cost the same amount since 1984, and over the weekend, a viral tweet with screenshots from an old Mental Floss article put to rest any fears of the buck-fifty dog deal going away. “If you raise [the price of] the effing hot dog, I will kill you,” Costco’s co-founder told the current CEO, per the outlet. “Figure it out.” The current CEO had complained the membership-only wholesaler chain wasn’t making money on the deal. Last year the chain sold 151 million hot dog combos, bringing in $226.5 million, Fox Business reports.
