A woman was invited to a friend’s house for dinner. Then she got the bill.
The San Francisco Chronicle is asking readers if they would bill friends for a dinner party after a Los Angeles podcaster posted a now-viral tweet, sharing that she received a request for payment after dining at someone’s home. For the house special of penne alla vodka, the unexpected check totaled $20, which the dinner guest admitted she paid with some reticence. “This makes me not want to accept offerings in the future,” her next tweet read. And to think … she had even brought a bottle of wine. The podcaster’s tweets were flooded with replies filled with bizarre dinner stories, like a Twitter user who said he was once invited to a high school friend’s home where he was served a completely different meal than their family, then asked to leave when it was time to enjoy dessert.
