FDA announces investigation of salmonella outbreak linked to whole onions that has sickened 652 people
On Wednesday, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced it was investigating an outbreak of Salmonella Oranienburg in whole fresh onions. The outbreak, which began in May, has been linked to 652 illnesses in 37 states, and 129 people have been hospitalized. The onions were sold by ProSource Inc., located in Idaho, and grown in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico. ProSource has agreed to voluntarily recall the onions, and FDA published a list of impacted brands and photos of their labels today. It’s not yet clear which grocery stores have been impacted.
