Maine farm with $1 million PPP loan does not seem to exist

An organic farm in Maine claiming it had 91 employees received a Payroll Protection Program loan worth nearly $1.2 million, the Portland Press Herald reports. The disclosure raised eyebrows in the state’s organic farming community: No one recognized the farm’s name, Common Ground Organic, and the insurance company that occupied the listed business address knew nothing about it. Curiouser and curiouser! To make matters worse, a Common Ground Farm in Florida, which wasn’t even eligible for payroll protection money, received notice from the Small Business Administration saying it would need to begin repaying its loan at a rate of $730 per month. Here’s hoping all parties involved can soon find some—sorry—common ground.
