Border agents thwart attempted bologna smuggler in Texas
Border agents seized 320 pounds of undeclared bologna at an El Paso, Texas, port of entry on Tuesday, reported The [Durham, North Carolina] Herald-Sun. According to Customs and Border Patrol (CBP), the man had nestled his bologna bounty under car seats, between consoles, inside duffel bags, and under blankets. He apparently told agents that he had planned to resell the products on this side of the border. According to CBP’s website, pork is generally not admissible from Mexico, though those traveling by land are allowed to bring a small amount if it’s fully cooked for personal use only. The cost of the failed smuggling attempt? A $1,000 fine. The fantasy of bingeing a car full of bologna to protect it from seizure and destruction? Priceless.
