U.K. doctors call for a meat tax (again)

For years, environmentalists have argued that meat products should be taxed to mitigate their climate impact. U.K. health professionals are now joining the chorus: In a new report, they argue that the government must take action to cut consumption of high-emission products like red meat and dairy. They also argue that more sustainable diets are not only healthier for ourselves, but for our environment. Also on the docket: banning buy-one-get-one-free junk food sales and mandating environmental impact disclosures on food labels. Given that European investors were calling a meat tax “inevitable” back in 2017, we’re not holding our breath. The Guardian has more.
