Following the online petition last month demanding the change of Trader Joe’s’ product lines with racist labeling, the company responded saying they had begun to phase out the product branding. However, in the following weeks, TJ’s deviated from the petition, the Los Angeles Times reports. “We disagree that any of these labels are racist,” the company said in a statement. “Products that resonate with our customers and sell well will remain on our shelves.” While the company may be avoiding controversy, some customers are taking their shopping elsewhere. “This is really a time where companies need to reflect on what their goal is in this movement and how they can push forward racial justice in their day-to-day operations,” said one former Trader Joe’s customer.
