Scientists in China have developed facial recognition technology for farm animals. Now sheep, pigs, and cows will have nowhere to hide. The technology, as reported in The Washington Post, can monitor each animal’s eating habits and detect signs of illness without the need to tag the animal’s ear. China currently has more than half a billion facial recognition cameras in place for both security and everyday purposes like shopping. But the same technology has also been exploited in alarming ways, such as surveillance of ethnic minorities.
