Some restaurant owners are searing mad over New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s decision to limit indoor dining access to vaccinated patrons as cases of Covid-19 continue to surge nationwide. On Monday, the mayor issued a citywide executive order requiring customers show proof of at least one vaccine shot to gain indoor access to restaurants, entertainment venues, and gyms, The Hill reports. By Tuesday, a group representing the Independent Restaurant Owners Association Rescue, multiple restaurants, and fitness clubs had filed a lawsuit against the city and de Blasio to block it. They allege that the order, set to take effect on September 13, would harm their livelihoods. Similar mandates have been announced in San Francisco and New Orleans, and in public comments made Wednesday, de Blasio expressed confidence that his vaccine mandate will prevail.
