After striking, Colorado Kroger workers win raises of $2 to $5.99 per hour

Earlier this month, more than 8,000 workers at Kroger-owned King Soopers stores in Colorado went on strike demanding better pay, stronger workplace safety standards, and paths to full-time employment. After nine days, they and the company came to an agreement, which includes wage increases of $2 to $5.99 per hour, among other boosted benefits, the Denver Post reports. It’s the first strike among Colorado grocery workers since the mid-1990s, and it may presage similar actions among Kroger affiliates elsewhere: At Smith’s in New Mexico, workers have threatened to begin striking on Saturday if they cannot reach a deal with management. No word yet on where strike three could take place. —Claire Brown
