In March, a space research company sent twelve bottles of Bordeaux and over 300 grape plants to the International Space Station, in an effort to study the effect of microgravity on wine and wine ingredients. Now, the bottles and plants are on a flight home, CNET reports. (Who’s gonna tell them how things have changed on Earth?) Food in space has long been an area of exploration for researchers, who are also investigating the impact of zero gravity on plant growth in hopes of one day harvesting fresh produce on spaceships. Up next? The company wants to send fermentation ingredients into the ether. In the meantime, they’re planning to do a wine tasting of the well-traveled bottles.
