Vegan competitive eating is a thing now

Vegans are getting in on the world of competitive eating, Mel Magazine reports. Vegan competitive eating events, such as they are, have so far been relatively staid compared to the infamous annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, in which competitive eaters have been known to scarf 75 hot dogs in 10 minutes. According to Mel, they’ve primarily featured vegans competing to see who can eat a single vegan hot dog the fastest (see: Vegandale Festival, 2019), and a pair of YouTubers splitting 20 McDonald’s vegan burgers over the course of a leisurely 20-minute video. (Spoiler alert: They don’t get through all the burgers.) Still, a miniature fandom seems to be emerging around the very small vegan corner of the already-pretty-small world of competitive eating. We all need our quarantine hobbies.
