Instacart’s technology provided a ready-made solution for grocery chains that hadn’t yet created an option for customers to shop online. Now, stores are saying they aren’t making money through the relationship, largely because the company charges them a 10 percent commission fee for each order, The Wall Street Journal reports. Some supermarkets, including Midwest grocery chain The Save A Lot, plan to stick with Instacart despite the fees. Others such as Kroger, the nation’s largest grocer, are focusing on their own pickup operations or working with rival companies.
