A Miami Beach food festival is expected to attract 20,000 attendees. They’ll have to show proof of vaccination or a negative Covid-19 test to get in.

What do Guy Fieri, Pharrell Williams, and chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten have in common? They will be among 20,000 expected attendees at the South Beach Wine & Food Festival this May. Wait, you might be thinking, isn’t there an ongoing pandemic that has killed half a million Americans and counting—not to mention multiple Covid-19 variants nipping at our heels? Rest assured, say festival organizers. Attendees will be required to present either proof of vaccination or a negative Covid-19 test if they want to participate. They’ll also have to wear masks when they aren’t eating, perhaps a tall order given why people typically go to food festivals. But the city of Miami Beach and the hosting location gave the green light to move ahead with this year’s event—which will have two-thirds fewer participants than usual. Stay safe out there.
