Senators are demanding answers from Abbott Nutrition regarding a massive infant formula recall, Politico reports. Powdered formula products contaminated with rare Cronobacter sakazakii bacteria have hospitalized five babies and contributed to two deaths, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has received reports of further illnesses that may be linked to the outbreak. The FDA, CDC, and Abbott all knew about an infant illness linked to the product back in September, according to Politico. But it’s unclear why it took so long for a recall to be initiated. —H.
