In most states, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits can’t be used to buy hot meals from restaurants, but the SNAP CARRY Act could change that. The act is intended to help the food-insecure, while benefiting restaurants struggling to make ends meet. According to Eater, advocates of the act believe changing the program is necessary to eliminate discrimination against those who are unable to prepare hot food. Increasing food options could also help relieve the strain on grocery stores, says Democratic Rep. Jimmy Panetta.
