At the Ouzo Bay restaurant in Baltimore, Maryland, Marcia Grant and her 9-year-old son Dallas were denied from dining because her Black son didn’t meet the establishment’s dress code. Discriminatory dress codes have long been a tactic to prohibit entry to those in baggy clothing, athletic wear, hats, and work boots among others. These policies continue to allow restaurants to scrutinize Black patrons and are not equally applied to all guests. Grant recorded the now-viral incident, which compares her son dressed in athletic attire to a white child wearing a similar outfit. Atlas Restaurant Group, the owner of Ouzo Bay, issued an apology statement. However, this wasn’t the first incident the company has faced. Vice has the story.
