Case in point: The oil industry—which just weeks ago was asking the Trump administration to allow some refineries to dodge ethanol-blending requirements—is attempting to woo corn growers and ethanol producers just in time for Valentine’s Day, Reuters reports. We all recognize this tired rom-com plot: Former foes unite against a common enemy, the rest is history. In this case, the common enemy is battery-powered cars, which pose a real threat to both industries (especially as major players like General Motors pledge to go all-electric by 2035).
