ICE detention center reportedly serving pork and rotten halal food to Muslim detainees

The nonprofit Muslim Advocates has sent an inquiry to ICE field offices, with disturbing reports on a detention center in Miami called Krome. After being served pork at meal times, multiple Muslim detainees report being forced to “choose between religion and nourishment.” In response, the facility’s chaplain reportedly responded to complaints by saying “It is what it is.” The Miami New Times also reports that this facility has faced scrutiny for related violations for years, after repeated complaints about expired or rotten halal meals being served.
