McDonald’s workers are striking to protest the company’s handling of sexual misconduct

McDonald’s employees in multiple states are going on strike today to protest how the fast food company addresses sexual misconduct. They’re joining tens of thousands of workers across the food system who are demanding better working conditions right now. This isn’t the first time the fast food chain’s workers have voiced frustration over what they describe as the company’s refusal to take adequate responsibility for harassment and assault in its stores, Vice reports. Employees have filed 50 harassment complaints with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the federal agency that oversees civil rights violations in the workplace. Last month, the agency announced it would take action and sue a McDonald’s franchise owner for allegedly perpetrating sexual harassment of employees, including teenagers.
