How do you keep workers on a farm for 30 years? Create a supportive environment, said one producer.

As a child, Kansas corn and wheat farmer Lon Frahm didn’t see his future in agriculture. Now he’s been at it for about 35 years, and in that time, expanded his business from 6,000 to 30,000 acres. In an interview with AgWeb, Frahm talks about the challenges he faced while keeping his operation running smoothly and efficiently. One thing he couldn’t do without? His employees. Frahm said that he hasn’t had a resignation or a layoff in over three decades, and he chalks it up to creating an environment where workers feel supported in their pursuit of other opportunities and welcome at the table—literally: Staffers say they even take an hourlong breakfast with each other daily.
