Halloween trick-or-treating is safe again, says CDC

One year after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention labeled Halloween trick-or-treating a “high-risk” activity due to coronavirus concerns, CDC Director Rochelle Walensky has given families nationwide the green light, reports Politico. “If you are spread out doing your trick-or-treating, that should be very safe for your children,” Walensky recently told “Fox News Sunday.” Given that many children remain unvaccinated, Walensky and other public health experts still recommend taking preventive measures, including traveling in smaller groups, wearing costumes with masks, and avoiding indoor gatherings or large-group “trunk-or-treat” gatherings. Coronavirus cases are decreasing nationwide, but researchers warn that community spread of the Delta variant remains high, and the cooler fall and winter weather is expected to trigger an uptick in coronavirus cases. Stay safe throughout the holiday season, experts say, by celebrating in well-ventilated spaces and masking up.
