A new proposed class-action lawsuit alleges that Grubhub added 150,000 restaurants to its platform without permission, Restaurant Business reports. This isn’t exactly surprising—Grubhub itself said it would add “non-partner” restaurants in a recent earnings report—but the other allegations in the lawsuit are eyebrow-raising, if they turn out to be true. Restaurant owners are accusing the company of advising its drivers to call in orders as if they’re real customers. It wouldn’t be the first time Grubhub has used its muscle to gain market share: As we reported last year, the company set up websites on behalf of restaurants without their permission, even when some of those restaurants already had sites of their own.
