“Recycled water”—that is, municipal sewage that has been filtered through a wastewater treatment plant—could play a huge role in helping farmers conserve freshwater. But according to new research outlined in The Washington Post, greenhouse growers are reluctant to get on board. They worry about contamination from bacteria or viruses that might compromise the safety of the food they grow. In reality, recycled water can be quite safe—policymakers just have to spread the word. Maybe they can start with a rebrand, one with a little less of a “used to be pee” feel? —Claire Brown
