Farm exports have added $270 billion to U.S. economy since 2019

Since 2019, agriculture exports have generated more than $270 billion for the U.S. economy, a number that likely includes not just revenues for farmers, but also profits for seed companies; commodity traders; and processors and distributors, according to a suspiciously cheery dispatch in Ag Daily. (“We’re on a mission to develop markets, enable trade, and improve lives,” says an export council rep.) All told, more than 20 percent of what American farmers produce is exported, a Farm Bureau economist adds. So who’s buying? The Wall Street Journal reports that China is roaring back from the pandemic and snapping up huge amounts of U.S. corn and grain.
