Covid-19 has nudged more fast food giants into the drive-through lane, Fast Company reports. Companies that have long resisted car service are getting in on the action with cringe-worthy branded efforts like “Chipotlanes” (guess who). Meanwhile, the elder statesmen of the drive-through class are investing in speed: The average wait time was just over four minutes in 2019, but Taco Bell wants to shave it down to three. That’s meant getting rid of classic menu items like the 7-Layer Burrito and Nachos Supreme. Starbucks has even introduced an AI system, called DeepBrew (seriously) and an even-more-automated espresso machine. Fast companies, indeed.
