Should we be dining in already? Restaurant critics say no.

As businesses begin to reopen and people gather outside of their homes, these gatherings have led to infection spikes, hospitalizations, and deaths. But government officials are sending out mixed messaging and restaurateurs are not public-health officials. When was the last time you stepped foot inside of a restaurant? For The New York Times, restaurant critic Tejal Rao writes about why she’s not ready to return to restaurants any time soon. Some restaurants have limited service to delivery and takeout, while others operate now as grocery stores. The fact of the matter is there isn’t a vaccine and while closing dining rooms hurts businesses and their employees financially, opening them risks hurting people physically. (Some food writers do not share Rao’s hesitation.)
